La deeptech dont tout le monde parle, c’est surtout celle des innovations nées de résultats scientifiques en biologie, chimie, matériau, en robotique, électronique, photonique, quantique… Bref, de la tech qui vient de la recherche en sciences dites « dures » : sciences de la nature, mathématiques, informatique.

Et les sciences humaines alors? Pour les mobiliser à des fins de redressement éthique des algorithmes, il y a du monde : mais l’on se préoccupe assez peu de savoir si les données issues de ces sciences peuvent servir l’innovation à impact. Pourtant, il est assez facile de concevoir que les données de géographie, ou d’aménagement du territoire peuvent aider à la lutte contre le dérèglement climatique; que les données socio-démographiques, ethnographiques, peuvent servir les défis du vieillissement de la population; ou que l’application de l’intelligence artificielle aux données du cognitif et du langage puisse faire naître des solutions pour soigner les troubles du développement.

Peut-il donc y avoir des produits et services à forte intensité technologique (blockchain, IA) appuyée sur la recherche scientifique produite dans les laboratoires de sciences humaines et sociales ? La deeptech peut elle aussi servir au pilotage des politiques publiques? Si l’environnement, la santé sont des sujets porteurs, peut on aussi envisager une deep tech à impact social?

The deeptech that everyone talks about, is mostly looking at innovations born from scientific research in areas such as biology, chemistry, materials, robotics, electronics or photonics. In short, the kind of technology that results from the sciences called ‘hard sciences’: mathematics, natural science or data processing.

But what about human sciences then? To apply them for the purpose of ethical analysis of algorithms there are many people, but there is too little concern, and too little consideration on whether the data from these sciences might enable impact innovation.

It is however easy enough, to collect geographical data, or to imagine how land and community development can help the fight against climate change, how socio-demographic data, and ethno-geographic data is indispensable to taking on the challenges that come with an aging population, how the use of artificial intelligence on cognitive data et language can help developing solutions for learning disabilities.

Can there not be products and services that are technology intensive (Blockchain, AI, …) and are based on scientific research resulting from the laboratories of human and social sciences? Can deeptech steer public policies? And if the environment or health, are critical issues, can we imagine deeptech with social impact?
