To celebrate International Women’s Day, Teens in AI is running a global #GirlsInAI2020 Hackathon to inspire hundreds of girls and young people from underrepresented communities (LGBTQIA) aged 12-24 across the world into Artificial Intelligence. We are on a mission to encourage young women to pursue computing and technology, and to promote diversity in this ever-growing field.

What is a Hackathon?
A hackathon is an event that gathers people with a diverse set of skills (programming, design, entrepreneurs) to solve a real problem within a limited amount of time. Our teen hacks run on weekends, 9-6 pm.

It can be found in vacuum cleaners, cars, lawnmowers, video games, Hollywood special effects etc…But how does AI really work and WHY should it matter?

What is Teens In AI?
Teens In AI exists to increase diversity and inclusion in artificial intelligence. We aim to democratise AI and create opportunities for underrepresented talent through a combination of expert mentoring, talks, workshops, hackathons, accelerators, company tours and networking opportunities that give young people aged 12-18 early exposure to AI for social good. Our vision is for AI to be developed by a diverse group of thinkers and doers advancing AI for humanity’s benefit. For more info go to www.teensinai.com

Great! We are looking for Design Thinkers, Tech Mentors and Entrepreneurs to mentor young women and inspire them into diverse careers in tech and AI. Please RSVP on this eventbrite – the organiser will be in touch with more info.
What will teens be learning?
Our curriculum is designed to give teenagers the chance to utilise AI and Machine Learning techniques to tackle global challenges in a holistic manner giving an understanding of design thinking, strategy and business model development, ethics, social responsibility and pitching skills. We will be exploring the following:
- Human-Centred Design
2. AI Ethics
3. Machine Learning Tools such as Python, Tensorflow, Keras, Jupyter Notebook, OpenAI gym and more
4. Expert talks
5. Workshops in Pitching skills; Business Models and more
How much will that cost me?
This event is offered to all participants for FREE.
Do I need to bring a laptop?
Yes – we do not provide laptops, so please bring your own.
Do teen participants need to know how to code?
No prior coding skills needed. If you are a beginner in Python, that’s great! Do not worry – we will teach you all the essentials. Trust your mentors – they will guide you through the entire process!
Do parents need to participate?
No. This is a drop-off event. Teens are to be dropped off at 9.30 am and picked up at 6 pm on both days.
