Selected by the Defence Innovation Agency (AID), the WaKED-Co tool is a platform designed to support researchers and the medical profession in the fight against Covid-19. Through the use of artificial intelligence, it makes it possible to substantially improve the processing time of scientific documentation and clinical trials on this virus.

Presented to the Ministry of the Armed Forces following its call for innovative projects, the WaKED-Co tool will benefit from financial support of up to €15,000 from the IDA. Since the launch of this call on 19 March 2020, more than 2,550 projects have been received in various fields (tests and diagnostics, decontamination solutions, support, decision support and modelling, etc.).

The WaKED-Co platform uses artificial intelligence to give researchers and the medical profession the means to analyse the extensive scientific and clinical literature on Covid-19. To this end :

It sets up a system for monitoring publications relating to Covid-19;
then classifies the information, via a “sorting platform”, to feed the bibliographical tool used by researchers.
The WaKED-Co project was carried out by teams of data scientists from the General Secretariat for Administration (SGA), the Armed Forces Health Service (SSA), the Army Computer Control Centre (CCIAT) and the Armed Forces Biomedical Research Institute (IRBA). The Elastic company, with which the Ministry of the Armed Forces works, also contributed to the project by offering its services free of charge. Its investment made it possible to develop and deliver a beta version.

Accessible since 15 April 2020, this version of the platform is already used by the IRBA and the crisis unit of the Ministry of Solidarity and Health. As of 14 May, it records an average of 280 connections per day and enables more than 500,000 referenced publications to be consulted. It also records the results of 388 clinical trials carried out on more than 16 million patients. New data are ingested daily.

WaKED-Co is an integral module of the interministerial platform covid-19.sante.gouv.fr. Free and open to healthcare professionals and crisis management players, it provides a global vision of the services and resources available to combat the epidemic.
