With the aim of making transport planning more reliable, Everysens, a French company specializing in logistics visibility, announces the launch of a new AI-based feature: availability forecasting. This feature should allow logistics coordinators to know if enough wagons will be available to carry out a transport on a scheduled date. This functionality will be included in the Transport Visibility & Management System developed by the start-up.
The Transport Visibility & Management System: a logistics tool powered by artificial intelligence
The Transport Visibility & Management System (TVMS) is the tool designed by Everysens that couples real-time inventory and ETA information with planned transports to predict the availability of transport means. The system integrates visibility into logistics processes through a series of modules (functionalities):
- Asset management to manage the life cycle of assets using digital twin technology.
- Fleet management to optimize fleet availability to meet transportation needs.
- Transportation Execution to plan and manage transportation operations in real time.
- Route & Network Design to optimize the network by leveraging execution data
- Transport procurement to manage one-off tenders and forward contracts.
- Finance & Freight Audit to manage billing and claims.
Even if the solution proposed by the Lille-based start-up seems complete, it wanted to add an additional functionality to help rail logistics players get better organized.
The new module of Everysens’ TVMS tool: availability forecasting
The new module proposed by Everysens in TVMS is the availability forecast. For each planned transport, a logistics coordinator will be able to know if enough wagons will be available to carry out the transport on the planned date. The company explains why it decided to add this extra possibility to its tool:
“In the factory, there is only limited storage space. As production cannot be constrained by transport, manufacturers must ensure that they have enough wagons available in the factories to evacuate the stock and fulfil customer orders. The real-time view is not enough: to plan shipments, you need to predict the number of railcars available at each plant in the coming weeks.”
Kevin Allanet, Chief Product Officer at Everysens discusses the importance of adding this functionality to TVMS:
“Availability forecasting is a much needed feature for our users. Within the transport planning tool itself, it provides them with key information to ensure the feasibility of shipments.”
Fleet and rail transport are closely linked: it is with this in mind that Everysens did not hesitate to add this function to its logistics visibility tool.
