The University of Grenoble Alpes and Orange inaugurate their joint laboratory dedicated to AI in health

While the WHO has just submitted its report on artificial intelligence in health , Orange and the University of Grenoble Alpes are inaugurating their joint laboratory called Telecom4Health (T4H). Officially launched on June 29, 2021, the laboratory will be dedicated to health and will aim to accelerate research on new technologies and solutions related to this field. With this laboratory, Orange wishes to bring its expertise in AI and data processing.

A laboratory dedicated to AI in health for a “4P medicine

The creation of this laboratory is the result of a partnership between the Autonomy, Gerontology, E-health, Imaging & Society Laboratory (AGEIS) of Grenoble Alpes University, the Grenoble Computer Science Laboratory (LIG) of Grenoble Alpes University, associated with Grenoble INP-UGA, the CNRS, Inria and the Orange Group. All the scientific teams from these institutions will be involved in the new joint T4H laboratory. It was inaugurated on June 29 by Nicolas Demassieux, Director of Orange Innovation Research, and Yassine Lakhnech, President of Grenoble Alpes University.

The research that will be carried out within this structure will focus on artificial intelligence in health and new technologies applied to the “4Ps” of medicine: predictive, preventive, personalized and participative. Each of the partners will contribute their skills and resources to carry out research on the subject. The T4H laboratory will be directed by Nicolas Vuillerme for the University of Grenoble Alpes and Hervé Provost for Orange.

Orange’s involvement in AI for health

While innovations in health are multiplying around the world, Orange evokes all the interest of digital technologies in the field of health:

“Digital technologies are indeed bringing major changes making radically new practices possible in the field of health. They make it possible to enrich, and in some cases reinvent, patient care and medical monitoring, particularly through medical decision support tools, in order to improve the patient’s health pathway and the practices of health professionals.

The TH4 laboratory will enable Grenoble Alpes University to apply its methodologies and knowledge of the healthcare ecosystem and Orange to contribute its expertise in AI and data processing. The goal: to design tomorrow’s healthcare services based on innovative technologies by producing, in the long run, projects, patents, and scientific publications thanks to the pooling of each partner’s know-how.

During this year 2021, Orange is very invested in the world of artificial intelligence: the firm has announced the constitution of an ethical committee for data and AI and is taking part in the Future4care project, a start-up accelerator focused on digital solutions in the field of health in partnership with Sanofi, Capgemini and Generali.
