The Franco-German bilateral call for projects in artificial intelligence was opened on October 22nd and will close on December 21st 2020. Two different instruments are proposed by the call.
By signing a joint declaration of intent on the creation of an “Artificial Intelligence Research and Innovation Network”, France and Germany reaffirmed their willingness to create a common AI ecosystem in order to set up new collaborative projects. Together, they will join their efforts on the basis of their national strategies to create the best conditions for new research and industrial cooperation projects.
The joint network will provide a better understanding of AI needs. The two governments will jointly present their findings to European and international AI work.
Thus, this bilateral call for projects aims to encourage Franco-German research collaborations, particularly in the following application areas: transport and mobility, logistics and services, energy (in particular renewable energy), environment and protective resources, industrial and production technologies, health, robotics and society.
The call proposes two different instruments:
- Four-year projects, between two French and German higher education or research institutions, aimed at strengthening bilateral AI research collaborations (type 1).
- Three-year projects, between French and German higher education or research institutions and industrial partners, for research and development of AI application areas (type 2).
Each agency will finance the call for proposals to the tune of EUR 5 million. The budget requested for type 1 projects must be between EUR 300 000 and EUR 400 000 and for type 2 projects between EUR 600 000 and EUR 800 000.
Joint proposals should be submitted to the FSNA and BMBF submission sites.
