On November 11, SambaNova Systems, OTP Bank and the Hungarian Ministry of Innovation and Technology (ITM) announced a partnership to build Europe’s fastest AI supercomputer within 100 days, leaving Wall Street and their European competitors including the French behind in the AI sprint. This multi-year collaboration agreement will allow them to deploy a multi-rack AI system, built on the Samba Nova Dataflow-as-a-service solution, for the world’s most advanced language model in a commercial bank. The system will be provided as a national AI resource to the public sector.
OTP Group is an EEC banking group based in Budapest, Hungary. With operations in 11 countries including France, it employs 40,000 people and has 17 million customers. Its development efforts apply to environmental, social and governance sustainability.
SambaNova Systems was founded in 2017 in Palo Alto, California. It is on a mission to bring AI innovations developed in advanced research to organizations around the world. It develops computer vision, natural language processing, recommendation and AI solutions for science. Its flagship solution, Dataflow-as-a-Service™️, helps organizations gain efficiencies through AI deployment in days. SambaNova’s DataScale®️ is an integrated software and hardware system using Reconfigurable Dataflow Architecture™️, as well as open standards and user interfaces.
As a result, the two companies have just announced their collaboration. Péter Csanyi, deputy director, head of the digital division at OTP GROUP is pleased:
“This is a unique collaboration between OTP Group, ITM and SambaNova Systems to provide an incredible resource to the country and the Central and Eastern European region. We are excited to announce that this groundbreaking supercomputer will represent a unique AI capability to create GPT-3 level language models for Central and Eastern European languages.”
OTP Group intends to take the European leadership in AI research and development through this collaboration, its customers will benefit from faster and more personalized AI-based financial services with this supercomputer capable of processing large amounts of information and text data in a short period of time. It will boost workflows and relieve employees of repetitive tasks, leaving them more time for service development and creativity. The supercomputer will have a positive impact on OTP Group employees across Europe. Professor Dr. László Palkovics, Minister of Innovation and Technology in Hungary said:
“OTP Group has an impressive industry-leading plan to make AI its main technology driver for the next decade. With the support of ITM, the AI environment they are creating will provide an accessible, state-of-the-art infrastructure for universities, research centers, and public and private organizations across Hungary.”
The goal of the multi-year collaboration agreement between OTP Group and SambaNova Systems is to deploy SambaNova’s Dataflow-as-a-Service GPT solution and create a unique Hungarian language model, one of the most complex languages in the world, subsequently developed in the language of other OTP Group countries. With this implementation, the bank will be transformed through AI and the power of SambaNova GPT, covering all areas of the business, from the front office to the back office. Rodrigo Liang, co-founder and CEO of SambaNova Systems said:
“Large language models are rapidly becoming the primary interface to the enterprise and AI will drive industry transformation. This deployment at OTP Group will show what is possible with advanced AI in document-intensive industries, such as banking and financial services.”
If OTP had developed and deployed the project in-house, it would have taken several years to achieve even with substantial human resources. Deployment is a complex technique, but SambaNova will enable OTP GROUP to do it in a matter of days or weeks. Once this step has been achieved, thanks to the AI supercomputer, OTP Bank will optimize the use of AI and gain even more places in the global financial market.
