Telecom Paris’ First Job 2022 survey: engineers in demand and well-paid

Télécom Paris, a school of the Institut Mines-Télécom and a founding member of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, trains general digital engineers. It recently published a survey to measure the rate of integration into the job market of its graduates from the classes of 2019, 2020 and 2021. The survey revealed that 99% of 2021 graduates signed their contract less than 6 months after graduation, and 72% of them even before graduation. In addition, their average annual salary including bonuses is €47,880, one of the highest upon graduation.

All business sectors are affected by the digital transformation, digital engineers, such as architects or information systems administrators are still in high demand but the new jobs driven by the major digital trends that are AI, data analysis, cybersecurity, cloud, or IoT that jobs are developing.

Three months after graduation, 72% of Telecom Paris engineers in the class of 2021 were working, 19% were preparing a thesis, and 6% were continuing their studies.

Business sectors of Telecom Paris 2021 graduates

The sectors of activity are diverse, however, Telecom Paris engineers have mainly turned to digital software and telecom services (ICT services) (34%), strategy and organization consulting (33%) and 13% have chosen financial and insurance activities. On the other hand, we find 6% of them in the manufacturing sector (including 4% in ICT), 4% in the higher service sectors, 3% in industry and the same percentage in publishing, audiovisual and publishing. On the other hand, only 1% of them opted for the administration, local authorities or hospitals and in the same proportion, towards research and scientific development in companies.

The companies where the class of 2021 works

Companies of all sizes are looking for the profiles of the Télécom Paris class of 2021:

  • 34% are employed in VSEs and SMEs (10 to 249 people);
  • 31% in large companies (at least 5000 people);
  • 9% in ETIs (250 to 4999 people).

71% of the graduates of 2021 work in the Ile-de-France region, 9% in other French regions , 20% have chosen to move abroad.

The job search

The young engineers in the class of 2021 said they found their jobs via :

  • End-of-study internship: 31%;
  • Professional social networks (LinkedIn, Viadeo, etc.): 21%;
  • Forum or employment service of the school and alumni network: 10%;
  • Company websites: 10%;
  • Personal relationships: 8%;
  • Apprenticeship, internship, professional year: 6%;
  • Unsolicited application: 6%;
  • Internet site specialized in employment (APEC, etc.): 3%;
  • Approached by a headhunter: 2%;
  • Takeover of a company: 2%;
  • Other: 2%.

Their average gross salary including bonuses is €47,780, one of the best offered upon graduation.
