IBM announced this week the name of the new entity in charge of managed infrastructure services that will operate as an independent company. Kyndrylwill be spun off from the multinational IT company so that it can fully invest in the cloud. The new $19 billion company will have 90,000 employees, an installed base of 4,600 customers and is targeting Fortune 100 companies.
Kyndryl will work with a huge ecosystem of technology partners to build on its customer base. The new independent company has been led since the beginning of the calendar year by Martin Schroeter, the former CFO of IBM until 2017. The brand is based in New York City, not far from IBM’s Armonk headquarters, about 60 miles away.
The brand’s ambitions are pretty clear: to make the company a global benchmark in the design, modernization and management of critical technology infrastructures with large institutions and companies. The spin-off of the multinational is underway and will be effective by the end of 2021, which will allow IBM to focus its business on other areas: hybrid cloud, artificial intelligence, hardware, software and consulting.
