Intel showcases new third-generation processors built on its data center platform

The new third-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors were recently introduced. They offer an average of 46% more performance than the previous generation, thanks to the new intelligence features built into the processor and its data center platform.

These new third-generation processors feature up to 40 cores per processor and are up to 2.65 times more powerful than a five-year-old processor. The design of the new processor is based on three key principles.

  1. First, with artificial intelligence acceleration built into the processor. AI is infused into every application, from the edge to the network to the cloud. This enables a 74% improvement in AI performance: up to 1TB of code and data can be isolated and processed to meet all machine requirements.
  2. Secondly, thanks to the improved security built into the processor: with Intel SGX, sensitive code and data are protected with the smallest potential attack surface within the system in the data center.
  3. Finally, a large number of important cryptographic algorithms are integrated into the processor with Intel Crypto Acceleration. This enables the processor to support encryption-intensive workloads.

The third-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors are also tasked with delivering quality performance across the cloud, network or even the edge. Navin Shenoy, executive vice president and general manager of Intel’s Data Platforms Group weighs in with this:

“Our 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable platform is the most flexible and highest performing platform in our history. It’s designed to handle the diversity of workloads, from the cloud to the edge to the network. Intel is uniquely positioned, straddling architecture, design and manufacturing, to deliver every component of intelligent silicon and the solutions our customers demand.”

Intel’s data center platforms have proven to be particularly useful in moving, storing, processing data and thus designing these new components. For example, 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors have been optimized for modern workloads running in on-premises and distributed multi-cloud environments.
