The company Idemia, specialized in augmented identity, has announced the launch of a partnership with Bosch Building Technologies, the Bosch subsidiary focusing on the security sector. The aim is to tap into the biometric access control market: a subject that has been the subject of debate in particular since the announcement of the European regulation on AI and the various opinions expressed by the EPDB and the EDPS. Currently, according to the OMDIA analysis firm, the market is worth nearly one billion dollars and should reach 1.4 billion dollars in 2024.
Idemia wants to enter the biometric access control market
Idemia is a company specializing in augmented identity. Its goal is to provide a trusted environment for consumers and citizens, more generally, to perform some of their daily activities (such as payments, for example, or access to certain places) and therefore, to ensure a certain security.
The company wants to take a step forward by getting involved in the biometric access control market, which is booming. And it is true that today, security can no longer be based solely on simple identification badges that can be easily duplicated or stolen. Biometrics is a possible solution to confirm a person’s identity by using personal or physiological characteristics, which are not spoliable or reproducible.
To enter the market, Idemia has announced a collaboration with Bosch Building Technologies, a subsidiary of Bosch, which offers a unique solution, called Bosch Building Integration System (BIS), which manages various security subsystems such as access control, video surveillance, fire alarm, public address and intrusion systems.
A partnership between Idemia and Bosch Building Technologies
Thanks to this partnership, Bosch will use Idemia’s contactless biometric terminals, namely :
- MorphoWave, a terminal capable of scanning and verifying 4 fingerprints in less than a second with a simple and quick hand movement, completely contactless.
- VisionPass, a sophisticated facial recognition terminal that combines 2D, 3D and infrared cameras with Idemia’s leading facial recognition algorithms.
With these two terminals integrated into BIS, the two firms will offer a new biometric experience combining accuracy, speed and ease.
Gregor Schlechtriem, Deputy Managing Director of Bosch Building Technologies, Access and Intrusion division, spoke about his desire to offer his customers quality biometric solutions with the help of Idemia:
“Bosch is synonymous with quality and reliability. We want to offer innovative, useful and exciting solutions, in line with our slogan, “invented for life”. IDEMIA is therefore the ideal partner, thanks to its technological expertise and the quality of its field-proven solutions. The biometric terminals that our customers will deploy for their security will be installed for many years, so we are keen to offer them the best solution.”
Yves Portalier, Executive Vice President of Biometric Terminals and Automotive at Idemia, on this newest partnership and the company’s entry into the biometric market:
“We are delighted to establish this global partnership with Bosch. The combination of our biometric devices with the BIS platform will be a strong offering for companies looking for a high level of security and convenience.”
