On November 15, the French government enacted the Reen law to reduce the environmental footprint of digital, which accounts for almost 5% of global emissions. Companies are already tackling this problem and developing technologies to reduce the ecological footprint and, among them, Greenmetrics. This young French start-up has just announced that it has raised €1.8m from the founders of Datawords and PCS Wireless to deploy its SaaS solution for businesses.
The pandemic has led to an explosion in teleworking, companies are making increasing use of video conferencing and dematerialisation is recommended for many documents: the carbon footprint is becoming exponential…
Acting for a responsible digital
Greemetrics is part of the Green It Alliance (AGIT), an association created in 2011, bringing together professionals for a responsible digital. The company has developed a solution for measuring and monitoring the carbon footprint of IT equipment in companies. This first SaaS software for corporate pollution measures all the emissions produced by the sites, applications, digital uses (email, instant messaging, videoconferencing …) of each employee through the integrated solution MyMarket, and this in real time. Greenmetrics then offers personalized recommendations and a customized action plan to reduce the carbon footprint. Nicolas Mouret explains:
“What we do is recommend actions to our customers. For example, we will suggest that they switch to reconditioned equipment, or to rented equipment. But we don’t quote service providers for that. It’s up to the company to find the right relays themselves.”
A €1.8M fundraising.
Greenmetrics’ customers used the beta version of the solution before opting for the commercial version. The company now wants to offer a more global approach and deploy its solution to other business verticals and to do so, has raised €1.8M from a dozen investors and renowned companies such as Datawords, a digital marketing agency, and Wireless, the US leader in reconditioned mobile devices. Greenmetrics, which has a dozen employees, hopes to double its workforce and win 200 customers by the end of 2022.
By the end of the year, it will offer a solution dedicated to websites and digital campaigns, and in 2022 it will tackle two major challenges in its fight against the carbon footprint: mobility and building energy. Greenmetrics also hopes to expand its market internationally.
Nicolas Mouret is delighted with this fundraising and states:
“There is a real need today for new methodologies and automated measurement tools. This is why we want to make Greenmetrics a tool that will act from end to end on the carbon footprint of companies, thanks to unique levers that take into account the regulations in force. I am honored to have the support of successful company founders to make Greenmetrics a benchmark tool in corporate accountability”
In addition to Green It, Greenmetrics is also part of the TechForGood network and, with the AFNOR group, is participating in the drafting of a methodological document for responsible digital.
