In order to speed up the processing of claims and car accidents, insurtech Tractable and AI and machine learning specialist Graphcore announce their collaboration. The two companies are joining forces to bring their respective skills to improve tools for identifying damage to property and cars. According to both companies, Graphcore and Tractable systems offer up to five times the performance of other similar platforms.
Tractable and Graphcore partner to speed up claims and accident processing
On August 24, Tractable and Graphcore announced their partnership with the ambition to accelerate artificial intelligence in the field of claims and accident resolution. On one side, there is Graphcore, the creator of the Intelligence Processing Unit (IPU) which allows the execution of large models or the sharing of computational resources between different users and workloads. On the other side is Tractable, an AI company specializing in disaster or accident recovery whose solutions are offered to insurance companies.
Specifically, Tractable worked with cloud company iomart and Graphcore Elite Partner Boston Limited to install its IPU-POD system. Previously, the company operated on NVIDIA systems in order to function. Now, it has replaced them with IPU processors in an effort to speed up processes and enable the development of new, more powerful AI models and techniques.
The importance of Graphcore’s IPU in Tractable’s tools
Razvan Ranca, co-founder and CTO at Tractable highlights the importance of performance in the processors used in their tools:
“Tractable’s systems are constantly evolving thanks to a large amount of incoming data. In other words, we train our AI models over and over again to provide the best possible service to our customers. The acceleration achieved through Graphcore’s IPU gives Tractable a clear competitive advantage. Tasks that used to take a week now only take a day, allowing us to grow faster while maintaining a high level of accuracy.”
Accelerating claims processing with the IPU allows Tractable engineers to more quickly adapt model training to current vehicle types and policies as new customers are added around the world. Tom Wilson, VP of product management at Graphcore elaborates further:
“Graphcore’s IPU systems are a perfect fit for Tractable’s needs. The performance and efficiency enabled by the IPU, even with today’s most demanding workloads, allows Tractable to meet the computational needs of its growing number of customers. In addition, with Graphcore’s scalable architecture, Tractable will be able to develop new AI models and techniques, preserving its leadership position in terms of applying this technology to assess property and vehicle damage.”
Of note, both firms appear in CB Insights’ 2021 AI100 global ranking of artificial intelligence innovators published in April.
