In order to optimize factory processes and improve productivity on the shop floor, the Siemens Group has announced a partnership with Google Cloud. The German company wants to use artificial intelligence technologies and more specifically those of machine learning, cloud computing and big data to automate factory floors and thus, help manufacturers. The brand hopes to take a step forward with the help of Google Cloud technology.

Improving productivity and quality

The goal of the cooperation between Google Cloud and Siemens is to facilitate the deployment of AI in relation to the industrial periphery and its management on a large scale, empowering employees as they work in the factory, automating mundane tasks and improving the overall quality of manufactured products.

Alex Lorenz, vice president of quality control at Factory Automation, a subsidiary of Siemens Digital Industries, emphasized the importance of AI for factories:

“The potential of artificial intelligence to radically transform factories is far from exhausted. Today, many manufacturers are still stuck in AI ‘pilot projects’ and we want to change that.”

Deploying AI at scale

Through this collaboration with Google Cloud, Siemens intends to offer AI solutions with the aim of automating factories. By combining Google Cloud’s cloud computing, big data and machine learning capabilities with Siemens’ Digital Industries Factory Automation portfolio, manufacturers will be able to leverage their data, run cloud-based machine learning models and deploy algorithms across the network. This will support industrial applications such as visual product inspection or predicting machine wear and tear on the assembly line.
