The Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence, an initiative launched by Canada and France at the Biarritz Summit in August 2019, is establishing a secretariat within the OECD. The aim of this partnership is to ensure that the use and development of artificial intelligence respects human rights and democracy.
In a joint statement, its founding members, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Slovenia, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union, set out the principles of the initiative:
“As founding members, we will support the development and use of responsible and human-centred artificial intelligence, consistent with human rights, fundamental freedoms and our shared democratic values, as elaborated in the OECD recommendations on artificial intelligence.
To this end, we wish to collaborate with other interested countries and partners.”
The initiative will aim to foster the development of artificial intelligence in this direction by supporting research and implementation in the field.
The GPAI will initially consist of 4 working groups dedicated to Responsible AI, Data Governance, Future of Work and Innovation & Commercialization.
The OECD will host the Secretariat of the Grouping and will be a permanent observer. The first meetings are expected to take place by the end of 2020.
