IP video management software (VMS) company Milestone Systems has announced the appointment of Dr. Barry Norton as Vice President of Research. This appointment aims to take the company to the next level in machine learning and more specifically in applying it to computer vision. This is in line with the company’s strategy: last April, Milestone Systems joined forces with Two-ito offer a VMS with an AI interface.
Barry Norton, computer vision and data specialist
Barry Norton’s career began at the University of Sheffield where he spent ten years studying artificial intelligence and more particularly computer vision. His thesis was on the modelling, validation and execution of flow-oriented software processes.
He then continued his research at the Open University in the United Kingdom and then turned to Germany by joining the STI Innsbruck and then the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology affiliated to the University of Karlsruhe. He works on the infrastructure project “Semantic Evaluation at Large Scale” (SEALS) and trains future experts in semantic technologies.
Later he became a technology solutions architect for Ontotext, a developer for the British Museum, a Senion Data Engineer for the publisher Elsevier and also in charge of the digital platform designed by A.P.
