Jean-Yves Le Gall, President of CNES, and Aiman Ezzat, CEO of the Capgemini Group, met at CNES headquarters at the end of March to discuss strategic issues common to both organizations: digital transformation and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). CNES and Capgemini decided to strengthen their collaboration on major climate issues and innovative technologies. In this context, the two leaders also reiterated their desire to make the European space sector a major lever of acceleration to ensure a sustainable ecological transition.
During this meeting, the two leaders noted a strengthening of Capgemini’s contribution to the Space Climate Observatory (SCO), the CNES initiative launched at the One Planet Summit in 2017, an international meeting on climate change. The SCO is now recognized by the international community as a key initiative to mobilize global space expertise, as well as research and industry partners in the fight against climate change. In this context, Capgemini will participate in the charter of the SCO International and join the 27 international agencies and organizations that already belong to the SCO. This approach is in line with Capgemini’s involvement with CNES in the current animation of the SCO community.
CNES and Capgemini are well known for their strong involvement in the integration of the digital and space sectors, and intend to continue exploring the uses of satellite data and services together. In the past, these two players have already collaborated on the scientific and environmental projects Copernicus, THEIA, Taranis and Microcarb. As a result of this collaboration, new uses for satellite data could emerge thanks to Capgemini’s expertise and its global footprint in the various markets for the benefit of CNES’s key areas of focus (Mobility, Climate, Agriculture and Health).
Finally, the two executives discussed future areas of collaboration based on Capgemini’s “Intelligent Industry” approach, which aims to leverage data and innovative technologies to accelerate the industrialization of the space industry. This is one of CNES’ main priorities to improve its competitiveness and resilience, through the transformation of production chains, or the development of a low-carbon industry, notably low-carbon hydrogen.
