The Digital Health Acceleration Strategy is part of the France 2030 plan, which aims to create the medical devices of tomorrow in France. On September 14, the Ministerial Delegation for Digital Health, the General Secretariat for Investment, in charge of France 2030, and the Health Data Hub launched the “Data Challenges in Health” call for projects. Operated on behalf of the French government by Bpifrance, this new call is aimed at learned societies, healthcare institutions or health cooperation groups that wish to set up large-scale healthcare data challenges on the theme of AI and health.
The “Digital Health” acceleration strategy, endowed with more than €650M, was announced in the Health Innovation Plan 2030. The Health Data Hub and PariSanté Campus are at the heart of this strategy.
Since its creation in 2018, the Health Data Hub has been involved in the organization of Data Challenges projects and thus contributes to fostering the development of innovative solutions that put AI at the service of healthcare.
The organization of data challenges
Data challenges are attracting growing interest. To organize them, the Health Data Hub establishes partnerships with actors of the medical world.
In 2020, a first Data Challenge on the detection of cervical lesions was organized with the French Society of Pathology. The following year, an AMI was launched for medical professionals wishing to organize a Data Challenge on the medical theme of their choice: the six winning projects are currently being organized.
The “Data Challenges in Health” APP
The “Data challenges in health” call for projects is part of the “Digital Health” acceleration strategy, as well as the Grand Challenge “Improving medical devices using artificial intelligence”.
It is aimed at learned societies, healthcare institutions or health cooperation groups that wish to set up data challenges in healthcare. These data science competitions aim to address specific medical issues related to personalized medicine, based on the analysis of data sets made available to all competitors and using AI technologies.
The projects submitted must be exclusively focused on the organization of data challenges
The project must be supported by a learned society attached to a National Professional Council, a health institution or a health cooperation group. It can be a single partner or a collaborative project, with a limit of 3 partners.
It must be completed in less than 18 months and have a maximum expenditure of 200,000 euros.
The selected projects will therefore benefit from financial support of a maximum of 200,000 euros and operational support from the Health Data Hub. The latter will provide organizational, legal, technical and logistical support during the various stages of the competition.
The funding provided in the framework of this call for projects will be in the form of state subsidies, up to a limit of 100% of the marginal costs or 50% of the full costs of the project.
Submission of applications
This call for proposals will close on November 2 at 12:00. The application file must be submitted in full, on time and in electronic form on the Bpifrance extranet.
