Confiance.ai et EUROCAE signent un Memorandum of Understanding

On January 6, Confiance.ai announced its collaboration with EUROCAE, the European leader in the development of globally recognized industry standards for aviation, and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. The latter will allow EUROCAE to define its developments and contribute to the implementation of new standards for systems integrating Artificial Intelligence.

Confiance.ai

Confiance.ai, a collective of 13 major French industrial and academic partners, is the technological pillar of the Grand Défi “securing, certifying and making reliable systems based on artificial intelligence”. Launched in January 2021 for a period of four years, this program aims to promote the integration of trusted artificial intelligence in critical products and services. It brings together some 40 industrial and academic partners in Saclay and Toulouse around seven R&D projects. Confiance.ai is the largest technological research program in the #AIforHumanity plan, which aims to make France one of the leading countries in artificial intelligence (AI) and, as such, is financed to the tune of €30 million by the Future Investment Program (PIA). It also contributes to the implementation by industry of the European Commission’s future “AI Act” regulation.

Eurocae

Eurocae is a non-profit organization founded in Lucerne, Switzerland, in 1963 as a European forum focused on electronic equipment for air transport. It develops high quality aviation standards based on the expertise of more than 4,000 highly qualified experts nominated by EUROCAE’s 400 European and worldwide members. EUROCAE standards are referenced by all major European and international regulators and actively contribute to safe, efficient and sustainable aviation.

The Memorandum of Understanding between Confiance.ai and EUROCAE

The EUROCAE WG-114 working group in charge of the future European standard associated with AI and the Confiance.ai program teams were already in contact before this agreement.

The partners involved in the Confiance.ai program aim to create a technical environment to ensure a high level of trust in critical services and systems based on Artificial Intelligence (AI). Through this collaboration, the Confiance.ai community and EUROCAE aim to exchange general and technical information, share expertise and eventually propose common recommendations. The trust environment will be designed to meet the most advanced European standards in the field, driven by the aeronautics sector. The work carried out within the framework of the development of the trust environment will then be able to enrich and guide the elaboration of future standards for AI-based systems, particularly in terms of methodology and performance metrology.

This component devoted to the application and emergence of new standards is addressed in the “Strategies for integration, verification, validation and qualification of systems for trust” and “Processes and Methodology for Trust” projects of the program. This compliance with standards will guarantee the industrial scope of the trust environment developments. Paul Labrogère, CEO of SystemX, the Technology Research Institute leading the Confiance.ai program and signatory of the partnership with EUROCAE said:

“At the forefront of standardization, aeronautics is one of the key sectors addressed by the Confiance.ai community. We are pleased to set up this partnership with EUROCAE, which is virtuous on both sides, on the subject of standardization of AI integration in systems.”

Christian Schleifer, CEO of EUROCAE added:

“Confiance.ai has very well identified the benefits that artificial intelligence can bring to the industry and focuses on mission-critical systems. EUROCAE’s partnership with Confiance.ai will bring the expertise and know-how to EUROCAE’s standardization process to pave the way for reliable integration into safety-critical systems in aviation.”

Confiance.ai has entered into a partnership with a leading European standards body for the first time, it intends to continue in this direction by forging collaborations with equivalent bodies in the field of autonomous vehicles, energy, defense, etc.
