Cloud and data-centric software company NetApp has announced the acquisition of Data Mechanics, a French provider of a platform dedicated to big data processing and analytics in the cloud. With this acquisition, NetApp aims to integrate the French start-up’s Apache Spark tool into its technology portfolio. The Data Mechanics team will be integrated into Spot by NetApp to accelerate the development of its solution.
Data Mechanics Joins NetApp Group
NetApp is a global software company focused on the cloud and data that helps customers get more value from their data in an accelerated digital transformation. It provides systems, software, and cloud services that enable customers to optimally run their applications from the data center to the cloud, whether they are building them in the cloud, migrating them to the cloud, or creating their own on-premises cloud experience.
Founded in 2019 by two Polytechnique alumni, Jean-Yves Stephan and Julien Dumazert, it is known for deploying Apache Spark, an open source unified analytics engine for large-scale data processing and Machine Learning, in Kubernetes. The Data Mechanics team and intellectual property will be integrated into the NetApp team and portfolio to accelerate the development of its recent solution , Spot Wave, which simplifies, optimizes and automates Spark workloads performed within public clouds.
