Launched on 5 May last, the Call for Projects “Evaluation of the medical and/or economic benefit of artificial intelligence-based medical devices” is open until 1 December 2020. It aims to support evaluation projects aimed at demonstrating the usefulness of artificial intelligence-based medical devices, with the results of the projects making it possible to justify the practical use of the device tested.
Each selected project will receive financial support up to a maximum of €500,000 in the form of a grant for a project duration of between 12 and 36 months.
Expected projects
Expected projects can be single or collaborative, private or public, and can be technology based:
- that isn’t on the market yet,
- which is already on the market and has already obtained a CE and/or FDA mark.
In both cases, the development of the system must be sufficiently complete to conduct the evaluation:
- the development of the algorithm should no longer require modification for evaluation, and
- the parameters of the algorithm must be fixed.
The request for support must be between €100,000 and €500,000 for a project duration of between 12 and 36 months.
Selection criteria
- Clarity and relevance of the expected medical and/or medical impact
- Degree of innovation of the project
- Experience of the project leaders and project maturity
- Market potential
- Financing plan
- Quality of the proposed study protocol
Terms and conditions of financial support
The funding provided under this call for projects will be in the form of state aid in the form of a grant.
For the proportion of eligible expenditure, the maximum rates of assistance are as follows :
- Small business: 60%.
- Medium-sized company: 50
- Large company: 40
- Public establishment in full costs: 35%.
- Public establishment in additional costs: 85%.
Submission of applications
- Deadline for submission: December 1, 2020 at 12:00 noon.
- Applications are to be submitted exclusively online on the extranet of innovative collaborative projects.
