CNP Assurances is committed to the ethics of artificial intelligence. The Group, a specialist in personal insurance, has announced the appointment of Xavier Vamparys as head of artificial intelligence ethics and the creation of a multidisciplinary and open committee responsible for placing human beings and ethics at the heart of all AI use.
With the digitisation of all uses, from the most everyday to the most complex, artificial intelligence is being applied throughout the entire value chain of an insurer, from underwriting to claims or benefits management, from product design to fraud control. AI appears particularly useful to improve the customer journey by streamlining processes and eliminating paper, shortening case processing times or increasing opportunities for customer contact . However, for AI to continue to develop and create value for all, it must be accepted by all stakeholders: policyholders, insurers, distributors and employees. A responsible use of AI tools is therefore necessary to create trust.
“As a responsible insurer and a public player, CNP Assurances has a duty to be exemplary in terms of ethics and to ensure that human beings are placed at the heart of the development of artificial intelligence. We have set up dedicated governance bodies to ensure that our principles are respected and to train and acculturate our employees and inform our clients and partners, in complete transparency, about the implementation of ethical AI projects.
The aim is to give confidence in AI, which will thus create value for our customers, partners and the company”, says Antoine Lissowski, Managing Director of CNP Assurances.
CNP Assurances wants to set an example in terms of ethical AI. The Group has therefore decided to define guidelines and to set up an AI governance system responsible for ensuring that human and ethical considerations are at the heart of the development of any artificial intelligence project.
Following the appointment of Xavier Vamparys as head of IA Ethics, reporting to Jean-Baptiste Nessi, Group Technical Director, CNP Assurances will set up a multidisciplinary IA and Ethics Committee. Reporting to the General Secretariat and the Finance Department, the committee will include representatives from the Compliance, Risk Management, Legal Affairs, CSR (Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility) and Customer Experience and Information Systems Departments. It may be open to representatives from the academic or research world or to experts in the social sciences and humanities.
Ethical principles in line with its DNA
In line with its values and its mission to protect people and everything that matters to them over the long term, CNP Assurances has set itself 5 principles of conduct for the development of IA:

- Protect data and ensure privacy,
- Put the human at the heart of AI tools and processes.
