The European Commission announced this June the 9 companies that have been selected to participate in its prototype intelligence platform. Among them, focus on the French start-up Earthcube, specialised in artificial intelligence and satellite data processing.
Earthcube, a Paris-based startup specializing in defense AI, has been selected by the European Community for its PEONEER project alongside nine other European companies, including Airbus Defence and Space (France); Hisdesat Servicios Estrategicos and ATEM NUEVAS TECNOLOGIAS (Spain); TERMA Group (Denmark), Elsis (Lithuania); Spacemetric (Sweden); TOVEK, spol. s r.o (Czech Republic); DefSecIntel Solutions (Estonia); and e-GEOS, a joint venture between Thales and Leonardo owned 20% by the Italian Space Agency and 80% by Telespazio (Italy).
Earthcube is an expert in critical applications and Defence has announced that it has been selected in the Persistent Earth Observation for actioNable intElligence survEillance and Reconnaissance (PEONEER) call for tenders of the European Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP). It is the only French start-up to have been selected.
The aim of this project is to strengthen air/space capabilities for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), Tactical Airborne Remote Sensing Systems (TARS) and sensors for air traffic management. In particular, it will be based on the development of permanent Earth observation from space, combined with automated interpretation of data and information, including via artificial intelligence, cloud solutions and real-time processing by on-board sensors. Earthcube will focus in particular on the development and application of artificial intelligence in the framework of this project.
“ Cet call for tenders is an exceptional opportunity to lay the foundations of AI and GEOINT to offer a European intelligence solution at the global cutting edge,” said Arnaud Guérin, CEO and co-founder of Earthcube. “ Nous will play a major role in this project alongside European leaders such as Airbus and E-Geos, a joint venture between Thales and Leonardo and a group of SMEs, ETIs and high-potential start-ups. »
Within the framework of the PEONEER project, the different members of the consortium, composed of 10 companies, will work on the design, prototyping and testing of a software platform that will implement the concept Activity-based intelligence (ABI) as a complement to geospatial activities. In particular, this platform will integrate data from multiple sources to study relevant activity patterns, determine, identify and characterize these patterns to guide information gathering and create a decision-making advantage. The software platform will assist geointelligence analysts in defining an appropriate satellite and non-satellite data collection strategy to perform ABI application and automatic data extraction.
The project, with a budget of €8.4 million (of which €7.2 million directly injected by the European Union), will be coordinated by E-Geos, a joint venture between Thales and Leonardo.
